The company

Isle of Sark Shipping

There is no airport on Sark, so the only way to reach the island is by sea. The Isle of Sark Shipping Company is owned by the island itself, and since 1969 it has been the only operator of the year-round passenger and freight service between Guernsey and Sark, which makes it much more than a tourist ferry: it carries the food, post, building materials and everything else the island needs.

The crossing is nine miles long. It takes about 35 minutes on the fastest vessel, the Corsaire de Sercq, and about 50 minutes on the Sark Venture or the Viking, between St Peter Port in Guernsey and Maseline Harbour on Sark. The company carries about 50,000 return passengers a year, the majority of them visitors.

The main season runs from April to October, but sailings continue through the winter for residents. Because the service depends on the weather and the tide, it is wise to allow some flexibility in your plans.
